University of Manitoba

The University of Manitoba was founded in 1877 in Winnipeg, four years after the city was founded. The university began awarding degrees from St. John's College, St. Boniface College and Manitoba College, the three founding colleges. In 1904, the university hired its first staff and construction on the buildings began shortly thereafter.

The 25,000 students attending the University, have a choice of 90 degrees, certificates and diplomas at the undergraduate and graduate level. The university unveiled Smartpark, a 100-acre technology and research park, in 1999. The university continues to grow and develop with projects to utilize older buildings and revitalize the campus.
