Visiting Manitoba

Manitoba is at its most inviting in the spring and summer. Warmer weather opens up opportunities for all kinds of outdoor adventures in places like Grand Beach Provincial Park and Spruce Woods Provincial Park, and communities from Winnipeg to Brandon to Thompson welcome visitors with more special events, festivals, and family-friendly fun than any other time of year.

PraireCon 2016 is the perfect way for Brandon visitors to kick summer off. Held annually at Assiniboine Community College in Brandon, PraireCon is three full days of fun and games, and from June 3rd through 5th, this year's iteration promises all kinds of tournaments, workshops, contests and more, utilizing board games and card games.

To the far north, Thompson celebrates its centuries-old heritage with the 2016 Thompson National Aboriginal Day. It's a day full of community cookouts, pow-wow demonstrations, square dancing, and more entertainment, beginning at 1 p.m. on June 21st at Centennial Park.

Called the "Chicago of the North," Winnipeg offers visitors countless first-rate, urban amenities and plenty to see and do this spring and summer. Wine lovers wander over to the RBC Convention Centre, April 24th through 30th, for the 2016 Winnipeg Wine Festival. The weeklong festival features samples and tastings of nearly 150 wines from over 40 regional wineries, along with their perfect food pairings.

From July 7th through 10th, Winnipeg celebrates its folksy side with the 2016 Winnipeg Folk Fest. Birdshill Provincial Park hosts the festivities, which include performances by the likes of Ryan Adams, Lucius, and Red Moon Road, along with the chance to browse the Hand-Made Village, the Prairie Outdoor Exhibition, and other vendors.

Then, the 5th Annual Winnipeg BBQ & Blues Festival is sure to satisfy your hunger and soothe your soul. Smith Street and the Burton Cummings Theatre in downtown Winnipeg fill with delicious BBQ, national and local blues performers, food and beverage gardens, and more on August 19th and 20th. Come hungry and cut loose – it's "three whole blocks of lip smackin', hip shakin' fun.
